The 1 oz American Eagle silver investment coin has been minted by the United States Mint since 1986. The coins are 99.93% silver and 0.07% copper. The silver comes exclusively from mines in the United States. The obverse of the coin features Liberty walking towards the sunrise. The motif includes the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and the official motto of the USA "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year of issue. Coins minted since mid-2021 feature the initials of the designer "WA" located below the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST". The reverse side of the coin depicts a bald eagle, the national symbol of the United States. Coins minted since mid-2021 feature a realistic image of a bald eagle with outstretched wings before landing. The bird of prey clutches an oak branch in its talons. The coin's description includes the name of the country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the face value, "ONE DOLLAR," the weight, "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and the US motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The coin also features the small initials of the designer, "ESD," and the medallist, Michael Gaudioso, "MG."
