The Year of the Dragon 2024 1 Oz silver coin is the fifth coin in the Lunar Series III from the Australian Perth Mint. The coin is minted from 1 ounce of 99.99% pure silver and celebrates the Year of the Dragon. The coin's motif is a portrait of a dragon with stylized waves and fog, which points to its control over the elements. On the reverse of the coin, both the Chinese character for "dragon" and the inscription "DRAGON 2024" and the Perth Mint's "P125" mark, marking the 125th anniversary of the mint. The 1 Oz coin includes a special security feature in the form of a microlaser-engraved letter, which is visible only under a magnifying glass, which significantly complicates the possibility of counterfeiting the coins. The coin is minted in a limited series of 300,000 pieces.
The reverse of the coin depicts a commemorative portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the dates of her reign "ELIZABETH II 1952-2022", the denomination "1 DOLLAR", the weight and fineness "1oz 9999 Ag" and the country of origin "AUSTRALIA".
