Maple Leaf are investment coins made of gold, silver, platinum and palladium and are minted by the Canadian Mint. The name is derived from the depicted maple leaf. The coins do not contain any other metals, only pure silver mined in silver mines in Canada. This silver coin has been on offer since 1988 and the silver purity is 999.9/1000. The obverse depicts the traditional portrait of the British Queen Elizabeth II. with the initials of the coin's creator SB. The portrait is surrounded by the inscription "ELIZABETH II", the year of issue and the nominal value. The reverse contains the symbol of Canada, an image of a maple leaf. A security mark visible under a magnifying glass is also included - a small maple leaf with the end year of issue, e.g. "22". The security mark is made using the laser microfabrication technique and is used on all gold and silver Maple Leaf investment coins issued after 2014.
