Struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold in ultra high relief, this coin marks the 11th wedge-tailed eagle design for The Perth Mint by renowned American coin sculptor John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint.
Key features:
The wedge-tailed eagle is a striking emblem of Australia’s vast landscapes. With a wingspan of up to 2.8 metres, it soars effortlessly on thermal currents, often reaching heights above 2,000 metres. Its distinctive wedge-shaped tail and feathered legs make it instantly recognisable as it surveys the terrain below. Found across mainland Australia and Tasmania, this powerful raptor captures the spirit of freedom and endurance in the Australian skies.
The coin’s ultra high relief design features the head of a wedge-tailed eagle in the foreground, and a bald eagle behind it—a nod to the 250th anniversary of US independence celebrated on 4 July 2026. Both birds are portrayed majestically gazing to the right. The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, together with the coin’s weight, purity, and 2026 year-date.
The coin’s ultra high relief reverse is minted on a concave surface to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is housed in a timber presentation case and themed box shipper.
